[PATCH] irqbypass: Use xarray to track producers and consumers

On ARM64 platforms with GICv3 ITS, VFIO PCI passthrough currently cannot dynamically allocate MSI-X vectors after MSI-X has been enabled. When QEMU needs to extend the vector range, it must disable MSI-X, free all interrupts, then re-enable with a larger allocation. This creates an interrupt loss window for already-active vectors. Consider HNS3 with RoCE: NIC and RDMA share one PCI device and ITS DeviceID, with MSI-X vectors partitioned as NIC (lower range) then RoCE (starting at base_vector = num_nic_msi). In VFIO passthrough, loading hns_roce after hns3 forces QEMU to tear down all interrupts before re-allocating the larger range. During this process, NIC interrupts may be lost. Testing confirmed that this occasionally occurs, causing the network port reset to fail. ITS_MSI_FLAGS_SUPPORTED lacks MSI_FLAG_PCI_MSIX_ALLOC_DYN, causing pci_msix_can_alloc_dyn() to return false. VFIO then sets has_dyn_msix=false and never clears VFIO_IRQ_INFO_NORESIZE for MSI-X, keeping the old "disable and reallocate" behavior. The essential prerequisite for enabling this flag is the fix to msi_prepare() call timing (commit 1396e89e09f0 ("genirq/msi: Move prepare() call to per-device allocation")): msi_prepare() is now called once at per-device domain creation with hwsize, so ITS creates an ITT with sufficient capacity for all MSI-X vectors. Without this fix, msi_prepare() was called per-allocation with semi-random nvec, maybe resulting in an ITT too small for dynamic vector addition. With this in place, dynamic MSI-X allocation works correctly: msi_domain_alloc_irq_at() uses populate_alloc_info() to copy the pre-prepared alloc_data without re-invoking msi_prepare(), so each new vector simply gets a LPI entry in the already-allocated ITT, without affecting existing vectors. virtnet_poll_cleantx() contains a do-while loop that cleans up transmitted TX buffers and calls virtqueue_enable_cb_delayed() to check whether more buffers need processing. When the virtio backend stops responding during guest reboot, used->idx is never updated, so virtqueue_enable_cb_delayed() always returns false and the loop never terminates. Then it will block reboot process, and the guest will hang. The problem occurs during guest reboot under network traffic: 1. kernel_restart() -> device_shutdown() traverses the device list 2. virtio_dev_shutdown() calls virtio_break_device() which sets vq->broken = true 3. virtio_dev_shutdown() then calls virtio_synchronize_cbs() to wait for in-flight callbacks to complete 4. A virtio interrupt fires, softirq is deferred to ksoftirqd which calls net_rx_action() -> virtnet_poll() -> virtnet_poll_cleantx() 5. virtnet_poll_cleantx() enters the do-while loop and never exits because the QEMU backend has stopped updating used->idx, despite vq->broken having been set to true in step 2. Since the loop runs inside ksoftirqd (a SCHED_OTHER kthread), it is visible to the scheduler and does not trigger a hard lockup. However, the kthread never leaves the loop, so RCU detects it as a CPU stall and reports it periodically. Meanwhile, the reboot process remains blocked in device_shutdown() because virtio_dev_shutdown() cannot complete its synchronization step, and the guest hangs permanently. This can be reproduced on a guest with a virtio-net device: run iperf3 traffic in the guest, then trigger reboot. The reboot occasionally hangs permanently with RCU stall on ksoftirqd. Observed on ARM64 KVM guest: CPU#1 RCU stall (ksoftirqd/1), repeated periodically: virtqueue_enable_cb_delayed_split <- virtnet_poll <- __napi_poll <- net_rx_action <- handle_softirqs <- run_ksoftirqd <- smpboot_thread_fn <- kthread Fix by adding a virtqueue_is_broken() check to the loop condition, so that the loop exits immediately when the device is broken, allowing the device shutdown to proceed. From: Jason Wang <jasowang@redhat.com> There are several issues existed in start_xmit(): - Transmitted packets need to be freed before sending a packet, this introduces delay and increases the average packets transmit time. This also increase the time that spent in holding the TX lock. - Notification is enabled after free_old_xmit_skbs() which will introduce unnecessary interrupts if TX notification happens on the same CPU that is doing the transmission now (actually, virtio-net driver are optimized for this case). So this patch tries to avoid those issues by not cleaning transmitted packets in start_xmit() when TX NAPI is enabled and disable notifications even more aggressively. Notification will be since the beginning of the start_xmit(). But we can't enable delayed notification after TX is stopped as we will lose the notifications. Instead, the delayed notification needs is enabled after the virtqueue is kicked for best performance. Performance numbers: 1) single queue 2 vcpus guest with pktgen_sample03_burst_single_flow.sh (burst 256) + testpmd (rxonly) on the host: - When pinning TX IRQ to pktgen VCPU: split virtqueue PPS were increased 55% from 6.89 Mpps to 10.7 Mpps and 32% TX interrupts were eliminated. Packed virtqueue PPS were increased 50% from 7.09 Mpps to 10.7 Mpps, 99% TX interrupts were eliminated. - When pinning TX IRQ to VCPU other than pktgen: split virtqueue PPS were increased 96% from 5.29 Mpps to 10.4 Mpps and 45% TX interrupts were eliminated; Packed virtqueue PPS were increased 78% from 6.12 Mpps to 10.9 Mpps and 99% TX interrupts were eliminated. 2) single queue 1 vcpu guest + vhost-net/TAP on the host: single session netperf from guest to host shows 82% improvement from 31Gb/s to 58Gb/s, %stddev were reduced from 34.5% to 1.9% and 88% of TX interrupts were eliminated.
