[Compiler-SIG/OpenJDK] Vector API of JDK stepped into the fourth incubation with a new JEP for wider discussion/idea
Hi folks,
Vector API is a OpenJDK feature helping optimize the compilation of vector computation at runtime. This feature has gone through three incubations. JEP 417, Vector API (Third Incubator)http://openjdk.java.net/jeps/417 has been integrated into jdk18, with full SVE and masking support.
Arm OpenJDK team is now working together with OpenJDK community on the fourth incubator: https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8280173 (draft). Any inputs are welcome! Especially the ideas based on your service scenarios on Arm platforms. You may reply this email thread or directly provide your comments into JEP above.
BTW, I'd like to introduce my colleague Ningsheng Jian who is leading Arm OpenJDK team. If there are any further questions, feel free to ping us.

Thanks Ningsheng and Erik made great progress on SVE of OpenJDK community.
So far I know, someone evaluates how to use the Vector API in some projects. But it seems that the Vector API is not easy use for the end user. Firstly, it is hard for the end user to write high quality code by Vecor API. Secondly, the Vector API is not ready in JDK 8 or JDK 11 which wildly used in the porjects. Of couse, we can work closely in openEuler Community to addrress the issue and make it better.
By the way, Compiler SIG will host a Salon at H1 2002, all of you are cordially invited to join and attend the meeting. Hope to see you!

Yes, we also observed some questions raised in the community. It may still require developer has some knowledge of hardware and some API internals. If you happen to have some specific cases, we can try to analyze them. Vector API is still an incubator project, and it makes no sense to backport it to upstream LTS stable releases at current stage. Hopefully we could make the project better in future. Thanks to the contributions from openEuler community!
