[PATCH OLK-6.6] mm: cachestat: fix folio read-after-free in cache walk
by Jinjiang Tu 15 Mar '24

15 Mar '24
From: Nhat Pham <nphamcs(a)gmail.com> stable inclusion from stable-v6.6.21 commit ba60fdf75e89ea762bb617be578dc47f27655117 category: bugfix bugzilla: https://gitee.com/src-openeuler/kernel/issues/I98BXJ CVE: CVE-2024-26630 Reference: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?id… -------------------------------- commit 3a75cb05d53f4a6823a32deb078de1366954a804 upstream. In cachestat, we access the folio from the page cache's xarray to compute its page offset, and check for its dirty and writeback flags. However, we do not hold a reference to the folio before performing these actions, which means the folio can concurrently be released and reused as another folio/page/slab. Get around this altogether by just using xarray's existing machinery for the folio page offsets and dirty/writeback states. This changes behavior for tmpfs files to now always report zeroes in their dirty and writeback counters. This is okay as tmpfs doesn't follow conventional writeback cache behavior: its pages get "cleaned" during swapout, after which they're no longer resident etc. Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20240220153409.GA216065@cmpxchg.org Fixes: cf264e1329fb ("cachestat: implement cachestat syscall") Reported-by: Jann Horn <jannh(a)google.com> Suggested-by: Matthew Wilcox <willy(a)infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Nhat Pham <nphamcs(a)gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Johannes Weiner <hannes(a)cmpxchg.org> Tested-by: Jann Horn <jannh(a)google.com> Cc: <stable(a)vger.kernel.org> [6.4+] Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm(a)linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh(a)linuxfoundation.org> Signed-off-by: Jinjiang Tu <tujinjiang(a)huawei.com> --- mm/filemap.c | 51 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++------------------------- 1 file changed, 26 insertions(+), 25 deletions(-) diff --git a/mm/filemap.c b/mm/filemap.c index d2aad2ff2892..0ee7db4b22f4 100644 --- a/mm/filemap.c +++ b/mm/filemap.c @@ -4139,28 +4139,40 @@ static void filemap_cachestat(struct address_space *mapping, rcu_read_lock(); xas_for_each(&xas, folio, last_index) { + int order; unsigned long nr_pages; pgoff_t folio_first_index, folio_last_index; + /* + * Don't deref the folio. From: Naveen N Rao <naveen(a)kernel.org> mainline inclusion from mainline-v6.8-rc1 commit 8f9abaa6d7de0a70fc68acaedce290c1f96e2e59 category: bugfix bugzilla: https://gitee.com/src-openeuler/kernel/issues/I96G83 CVE: CVE-2023-52606 Reference: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?… -------------------------------- Some of the fp/vmx code in sstep.c assume a certain maximum size for the instructions being emulated. The size of those operations however is determined separately in analyse_instr(). Add a check to validate the assumption on the maximum size of the operations, so as to prevent any unintended kernel stack corruption.
