It is dropped only when the last fragment is processed or when an NTF packet with NCI_OP_RF_DEACTIVATE_NTF opcode is received. However, the NCI device may be deallocated before that which leads to skb leak. As by design the rx_data_reassembly skb is bound to the NCI device and nothing prevents the device to be freed before the skb is processed in some way and cleaned, free it on the NCI device cleanup. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with Syzkaller. In this case, setmax might check against the old 'min' value (before acquiring the lock) but write its value after the 'min' has been updated by setmin. This leads to a situation where the 'max' value ends up being smaller than the 'min' value, which is an inconsistency. This possible bug is found by an experimental static analysis tool developed by our team, BassCheck[1]. This tool analyzes the locking APIs to extract function pairs that can be concurrently executed, and then analyzes the instructions in the paired functions to identify possible concurrency bugs including data races and atomicity violations. The above possible bug is reported when our tool analyzes the source code of Linux 5.17. To resolve this issue, it is suggested to encompass the validity checks within the locked sections in both set_min and set_max funcs. The modification ensures that the validation of 'val' against the current min/max values is atomic, thus maintaining the integrity of the settings. With this patch applied, our tool no longer reports the bug, with the kernel configuration allyesconfig for x86_64. Due to the lack of associated hardware, we cannot test the patch in runtime testing, and just verify it according to the code logic. Driver unload requests may hang with repeated "2878" log messages. The Link down processing results in ABTS requests for outstanding ELS requests. The Abort WQEs are sent for the ELSs before the driver had set the link state to down. Thus the driver is sending the Abort with the expectation that an ABTS will be sent on the wire. The Abort request is stalled waiting for the link to come up. In some conditions the driver may auto-complete the ELSs thus if the link does come up, the Abort completions may reference an invalid structure. Fix by ensuring that Abort set the flag to avoid link traffic if issued due to conditions where the link failed. To prevent double free a synchronization between nvme_delete_ctrl and ida_destroy has been added by the initial commit. There is some logic around trying to prevent from hanging forever in wait_for_completion, though it does not handling all cases. E.g. blktests is able to reproduce the situation where the module unload hangs forever. If we completely rely on the cleanup code executed from the nvme_delete_ctrl path, all IDs will be freed eventually. This makes calling ida_destroy unnecessary. We only have to ensure that all nvme_delete_ctrl code has been executed before we leave nvme_fc_exit_module. This is done by flushing the nvme_delete_wq workqueue. While at it, remove the unused nvme_fc_wq workqueue too. The value may be not be up to date anymore when used by need_preemptive_reclaim() and btrfs_preempt_reclaim_metadata_space(), but that's ok since the worst it can do is cause more reclaim work do be done sooner rather than later. Reading the field while holding the lock instead of using the data_race() annotation is used in order to prevent load tearing.
