This inefficiency is particularly noticeable in short syscalls such as lseek() and getpid(), where the syscall function itself comprises a small percentage of the total instructions executed. To address this, we introduce the concept of xcall, a fast svc exception handling path that only considers necessary features such as security, context saving, and recovery. This approach can be seen as a high-speed syscall processing mechanism bridging the gap between vdso and traditional syscalls. We've implemented a per-task bitmap to enable or disable xcall for specific syscalls. Users can enable a syscall with the following command: echo $syscall_nr > /proc/$PID/xcall To disable a syscall, use: echo \!$syscall_nr > /proc/$PID/xcall The current status of enabled syscalls can be viewed by: cat /proc/$PID/xcall Finally, we've added a kernel boot parameter to control the xcall feature. For tracing, it is not needed given CAP_PERFMON can already read all kernel memory anyway hence bpf_get_func_arg() and bpf_get_func_ret() is skipped in here. Also, the MTU helpers mtu_len pointer value is being written but also read. Technically, the MEM_UNINIT should not be there in order to always force init. Removing MEM_UNINIT needs more verifier rework though: MEM_UNINIT right now implies two things actually: i) write into memory, ii) memory does not have to be initialized. If we lift MEM_UNINIT, it then becomes: i) read into memory, ii) memory must be initialized. This means that for bpf_*_check_mtu() we're readding the issue we're trying to fix, that is, it would then be able to write back into things like .rodata BPF maps. Follow-up work will rework the MEM_UNINIT semantics such that the intent can be better expressed. For now just clear the *mtu_len on error path which can be lifted later again. The problem arises when a phy control response comes late. After 300 ms the pm8001_phy_control() function returns and the passed enable_completion stack address is no longer valid. Late phy control response invokes complete() on a dangling enable_completion pointer which leads to a kernel crash.
